Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is a very common form of heel pain millions of Americans face, and is a condition that we treat quite frequently in our office. This painful chronic condition occurs when the plantar fascia (the long band of fibrous connective tissue on the bottom of your feet) becomes damaged or torn by repetitive stress, injuries, or repeated pressure.
Our team of doctors are experts in Podiatric Medicine, Biomechanics, and Surgery. The treatment options they’ve perfected over the years have a near-95% success rate, and include stimulating the body’s own healing and repair mechanisms through Dry Needling and ESWT Therapy, creating custom orthotics to disburse pressure and correct gait anomalies, and relieving pain & inflammation with precise ultra-sound-guided cortisone injections. If a surgical intervention is necessary, our doctors and staff can take care of you in our Medicare-certified Surgery Center directly adjacent to our clinic-saving you time, money, and paperwork.

Heel Pain
Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis-when damage to the connective tissue on the bottom of the foot makes it inflamed and painful. Other common causes of heel pain are bursitis (inflammation of the cushioning bursa sac in the heel), constricted nerves, and stress fractures in the heel bone.
Heel pain should not be something you “learn to live with.” We have often helped relieve chronic heel pain in patients who have been referred to us by other clinics unable to resolve it. Why? Our podiatric specialists use ultrasound to visualize the underlying cause of the pain, and have fine-tuned various treatments to enhance the body’s healing process and relieve pain. We can also help restore heel padding with dermal fillers, create custom orthotics, and-when necessary-provide a full suite of surgical solutions in our adjacent surgery center.

Bunions
A bunion is a complex, progressive deformity which affects the front part of the foot. The big toe angles inward rather than laying straight-forcing other foot bones out of alignment over time, and creating a bony bump on the joint at the base of the big toe. Certain inherited foot types are more prone to developing bunions which can be contributed to by wearing improper footwear that crowds the toes.
Conservative treatment may provide pain relief for some patients early on. Severe bunions may need surgical intervention. But not all surgical solutions are equal, and most only evaluate and correct the deformity on one plane of the body. This incomplete approach can increase your chances of reoccurrence and revisional surgery. As experts who have performed numerous bunion surgeries, we evaluate, understand, and correct the bunion as it relates to the entire foot on not only one-but all three-anatomical planes, which most bunion surgeons unfortunately fail to do.

Neuromas
When nerve tissues become thickened and inflamed through compression or irritation, this is known as a neuroma. Neuromas can occur throughout the body, including the feet. Morton’s neuroma occurs in between the 3rd and 4th toes, and can make it feel as if you are walking on a pebble or have a bunched up sock in the front of your shoe. Without proper care, Morton’s neuroma may continue to enlarge and permanent nerve damage may occur.
Our doctors have successfully treated many neuromas over the years and, as such, have established a specific method combining FDA-approved therapies and oral supplements that work in tandem to help reduce nerve pain. Many of our patients have been able to get the relief they desire and avoid surgery with this conservative protocol.

Ingrown Nails
Ingrown toenails can range from an irritating annoyance with mild discomfort to a more serious condition involving an infection. Ingrown toenails most commonly develop when toenails are cut too short (or rounded at the corners) so that the nail grows into the surrounding skin and not over it. This can be aggravated by wearing socks and shoes that are too tight.
Our team of podiatrists have treated countless patients with ingrown toenails. We have developed an advanced technique which precisely removes just the offending nail border, and not the entire nail. Patients experience less discomfort during the procedure, and the skin’s appearance underneath the removed portion of the nail quickly returns to normal, while the chances of infection are reduced. Our specialized procedure virtually eliminates the patient’s chances of re-growth as well-which can happen in other procedures.

Ankle Pain
While we treat many types of ankle pain in our clinic-from sprains and fractures to tendonitis, arthritis and other conditions-most of the patients we see for ankle pain are athletes and runners. In our experience, most ankle pain is caused by a history of ankle sprains, insufficient treatment of sprains, or other trauma which can weaken surrounding muscles and ligaments.
Ankle sprains are one of the most under-treated injuries in medicine, as patients often do not seek medical intervention or lack follow-up treatment. At Issaquah Foot & Ankle Specialists, we understand that an improperly treated ankle sprain can have severe long-term ramifications. We offer a full range of treatment for ankle sprains from conservative care to surgical reconstruction, and provide urgent care and same-day appointments in sports medicine-related injuries.

Hammertoes
Hammertoes are a common, progressive foot deformity which we see quite often in our clinic. A hammertoe is a flexible or rigid contraction where the middle joint in the smaller toes get permanently bent downward, like a hammer, or claw. This can occur due to an imbalance in the tendons or muscles in the feet, genetics, or even wearing shoes that are too tight or put undue pressure on the toes.
In the early stages of hammertoe-while it is still flexible and has not yet become permanently rigid-we can deploy a number of therapies such as orthotics, corn pads, straps, and cushions. We also guide patients to better shoe choices that offer ample room in the toe box. Our podiatric surgical specialists also have immeasurable experience in our adjacent surgery center correcting hammertoes by rerouting tendons in the toe, joint resection, or fusion.
